Texas Roadhouse-Style Rolls

Instructions

  1. Activate the Yeast
Place the yeast and warm water in a small bowl. Stir once and let it sit for about 5 minutes until it becomes slightly foamy.
  2. Warm the Milk Mixture
In a microwave-safe container, combine the milk and buttermilk. Heat gently until warm but not hot. It’s normal if the buttermilk separates slightly.
  3. Add the Butter
Stir the softened butter into the warm milk mixture until melted and combined.
  4. Start the Dough
In a large mixing bowl, combine the milk mixture, activated yeast, sugar, salt, and 1 cup (125 g) of flour. Using a mixer with a dough hook, beat on high speed until smooth.
  5. Add the Egg
Add the egg and mix until fully incorporated into the dough.
  6. Add Remaining Flour
Gradually add the remaining flour a little at a time until the dough pulls cleanly away from the dough hook and forms a soft dough.
  7. Let the Dough Rise
Lightly flour the dough and shape it into a ball. Place it in a well-greased bowl, cover with a towel, and let it rise in a warm place for 1 hour, or until doubled in size.
  8. Shape the Rolls
Transfer the dough to a lightly floured surface and roll it out to about ½ inch (1.3 cm) thickness. Cut into 12 even rectangular pieces.
  9. Form the Rolls
Fold the ends of each rectangle underneath to create a roll shape. Place them on a parchment-lined baking sheet and let them rise again for 20 minutes.
  10. Bake the Rolls
Preheat the oven to 400°F (200°C). Bake the rolls for 12–15 minutes until they are lightly golden on top.
  11. Brush with Butter
Remove from the oven and brush the tops with melted butter for extra softness and shine.
  12. Prepare the Honey Cinnamon Butter
In a small bowl, combine softened butter, cinnamon, honey, and confectioners’ sugar. Mix until smooth and creamy.
  13. Serve Warm
Serve the warm rolls with the honey cinnamon butter spread generously on top.
